Searching for Blu-ray Information
O.k., so we know that sales of Blu-ray Players are increasing rapidly as are sales of Blu-ray movies (there are also an ever increasing number of movies available on Blu-ray format). But what about the number of Internet searches for Blu-ray information as well as web pages being published that are Blu-ray related. Blogs give a very good representative sample of the trends of pages mentioning certain terms. Technorati is one of the more popular (if not most popular) Blog ‘directory’. Technorati notes the following as the number (and trend) of Blogs mentioning blu-ray:

Searches for Blu-ray
Now what are people are actually searching for? This is where Google is almighty as it is the most popular search engine. Google is also great in sharing information (thanks Google!).In the chart bellow we see the trend of searches with the term ‘Blu-ray’ in them.
The spikes in searches with Blu-ray at the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 are interesting and may well be explained by the fact that this is around the time that the end of HD-DVD was announced (the same trend is seen in the Technorati chart).
What about DVD?
Well, predictably, search volumes of the term DVD are falling:
The writing is ‘on the wall’ for DVD but Blu-ray still has some way to go in competing on pricing, the number of movies and compatible devices and so on……

Hmm, pretty interesting research. I wonder if it’d be possible to estimate when searches for DVD will completely fall off into the abyss (as completely as they can, anyway). I mean, I’m sure its possible, but its beyond my knowledge at the moment.
