Apple Refuses to Supply Operating System
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple is suing Psystar Corp as it is using Apple’s Leopard Operating System (MAC OS X) on its computers. This just has to be one of Apple’s craziest moves yet. O.k., so Apple has created a very strong Brand with loyalty to match (not with just computers but also with the iphone), but one has to ask:
- Are any anti-trust laws being infringed by this inistence of exclusivity?
- What about all the money Apple could make from licensing the OS?
- What do their current and potential customers think of this?
We think that Apple have gone too far this time! Microsoft lost public support with the close tying in of products (think Windows and Internet Explorer) but have never gone as far as trying to totally limit even hardware. Imagine if, say, Sony insisted thatb Blu-ray only be available on it’s hardware….HD-DVD would have won the format war.
P.S. Rumor is circulating that Dell would be interested in supplying hardware with MAC OS X installed!
