Is Sony Waving Goodbye to Bluray

Some very interesting Sony offered information has been swirling about over the past few days….

We have commented in previous posts about the Microsoft approach to Blu-ray and movie streaming as well as the threats that Blu-ray faces as a medium. Now however comes a significant strategy move from one of the forefathers of Blu-ray: Sony. In summary Sony is moving to streaming content to Playstation3 and their Bravia HDTVs.

There are still significant hurdles to Streaming such as the time which a movie will take to download as well as where the movies will be stored once downloaded (of course this may also be advantageous to Blu-ray as perhaps Blu-ray discs will store the streamed movies).

We here at gobluray.com believe that it will be many years before mass straming of movies will be viable….until then, bring on the great features and quality of high definition Blu-ray with the awesome sound of Dolby!
